In 1947, Russ Lyon Realty Company was founded in Phoenix by Russell Lyon, Sr. Formerly an executive with Music Corporation of America (MCA) in New York City, Russ decided to move his wife and two sons to California in early 1947. During a brief detour through Phoenix, Russ and his family stopped to enjoy the eminent orange blossom season. It was then that they realized the Valley would be their new home and the prospect of a California residence soon became a memory. Shortly after buying a home in Scottsdale, Russ took an avid interest in real estate and by December, Russ had acquired his real estate license and opened Russ Lyon Realty Company's first office in Scottsdale. Russ Lyon Realty Company started with only three employees but because of vision, determination and a fervent interest in the growth of the community, the Company quickly became a dominant force in the Valley's luxury home real estate market.
Russ Lyon Realty Company has evolved from its beginnings in 1947 into a state-wide professional real estate company. In May 2008, Russ Lyon Realty merged with Equitable Sotheby's International Realty. The new company, Russ Lyon Sotheby's International Realty operates offices in the Valley, Prescott, Sedona and Flagstaff and has more than 1000 sales associates.
